Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island known as West Island. The West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never heard of it often confuse it with a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is commonly called her birthplace. But she only resided there for a very short period of time. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa. She had a dream to become a dancer, but an increase in her height resulted in her outgrowing her dance partners. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel it was because of the advice by her drama instructor in high school who pushed her to take the step she needed. The teacher encouraged her to take part in an audition in her school's production. It was her choice to take on the lead character of Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. This led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work been seen on the small and large screen. The most notable was her attention when she won her part as Rita in the acclaimed television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 and only appeared on occasion.
